Emily Owen (19), the young waitress, has been unable to cope “with her world closing in, plans being canceled and being stuck inside” died in the hospital on Sunday after a suicide attempt on March 18th.
Emily, from Norfolk, England, had warned her loved ones days before the tragedy: “More people will die from suicide during this than the virus itself”.
Owen’s family said that she was worried about the mental health impacts of isolation as well as “fear of the unknown”.
Emily Owen signed up to be an organ donor at the age of 12, and now 3 children will benefit from her gift of life.
Annabel Owen, Emily’s sister, shared on Facebook: “Few people are aware but four years ago she was diagnosed with high-functioning autism and had a daily battle to fit in and conform to social norms. She didn’t want anyone to know, but now she has gone we want to make people know that autism comes in all shapes and sizes”.
In Emily’s memory and to raise awareness about autism Owen family started an online fundraising page.
